LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Statistics show 34 people in Little Rock have been injured or killed by gunfire over the last 9 days.
Here’s a breakdown of the alarming information:
– Saturday, June 24, 2017: Two people shot in drive-by in 4500 block of Montclair. One-year-old was inside the home. Child not injured. No arrests.
– Tuesday, June 27, 2017: 7-year-old boy shot during drive-by in 1100 block of Washington Street. Arrest made.
– Tuesday, June 27, 2017: One person shot in drive-by on I-30/I-630 interchange. No arrests.
– Thursday, June 29, 2017: 18-year-old shot in drive-by in 8300 block of Colonel Glenn Road.
– Friday, June 30, 2017: Man shot at 6th and Scott in apparent drug deal
– Saturday, July 1, 2017: 25 people shot inside Power Ultra Lounge in Little Rock
– Sunday, July 2, 2017: One shooting victim killed in murder-suicide
– Sunday, July 2, 2017: Accidental shooting injures two children at 32nd and Irving
During Saturday’s news conference about the Power Ultra shooting, Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola mentioned the recent violence saying a crackdown on felons and parolees caught carrying guns on the streets was needed.
“We’ve got to take these repeat gun offenders off the streets,” he said. “We believe this is a very small group of repeat offenders that are bent on violent crime.”
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson tweeted his prayers to the victims of the shooting and said Little Rock’s crime rate “appears to be intensifying.”
“Every few days it seems a high profile shooting dominates the news, culminating in this morning’s event,” he said. “We are still gathering facts, but it is clear that we need to have a comprehensive enforcement strategy in place that helps take the violent threats off the streets.”
