LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas attorney general’s office says there’s a new scam in Arkansas in which residents are being told they are winners of an automobile.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel’s office said Wednesday that the scam artists are suggesting they know where people live, which has unsettled some call recipients.

Consumers are told they won a lottery prize — usually a car — but they have to wire money to cover taxes and processing fees before they can collect.

McDaniel’s office says people who receive the calls should not wire any money — but should write down the number from which the call originated and then call the AG’s consumer protection division.

Anyone who feels threatened should call police.
