LITTLE ROCK, AR – Yolanda Williams lives in Little Rock but works across the Arkansas River.
She drives practically drives I-30 every day.
“If it can get me to work a little bit quicker that would be great,” she said.
Her commute isn’t all she’s concerned about. Yolanda questions the adjustments to I-30 could have on her Little Rock church in East End.
“We’re just trying to see how it’s going to affect our church and see how it’s going to affect people seeing our church and being able to get to our location.”
Others in this room came to Horace Mann Magnet with their own feedback and questions.
AHTD officials showcased a number of drawings set up in this open house forum, showing folks different ways to improve the I-30 corridor.
“This is part of what we call the Connecting Arkansas program,” said Randy Ort with the AHTD. “The people of arkansas went to the polls in November 2012 and approved a half cent sales tax. This is just one of the projects to be funded.”
More than 120, 000 vehicles travel on I-30 every day, so the department is looking for ways to reduce congestion, such as adding more lanes.
“It’s really important to hear, not just from the drivers, but the people who live in the community who work in the community who have a lot of access issues with it,” Ort said.
While AHTD admits it has a long way to go, they are moving forward in this process and are focusing on your ideas.
“I think it’s a great thing that they’re asking assistance what they think and they’re trying to be proactive,” said Williams.
Thursday’s forum was just one of a series of meetings AHTD is holding to get feedback from the public.
