BENTONVILLE — Police are asking for help to find a man they say posed as a cop to pull a woman over.
Bentonville Police Department said it happened Tuesday around 2:00 a.m. when the man stopped a Bentonville female woman as she drove home from work.
During the “stop” the woman said she became suspicious of his actions when he tried to open her car door.
When she told him she was going to call the police, he drove away, according to reports.
The man’s car was described as a black passenger car with a dull or matte finish and dark tinted windows.
It had the appearance of an old police car, similar to a Ford Crown Victoria.
The car was equipped with a silver spotlight on the driver’s side and red and blue lights mounted on the car’s dashboard.
The man was described as being well-groomed, approximately six feet tall, having dark hair and a goatee.
He was wearing black pants and a black long sleeve shirt.
Following this incident, police are reminding folks that in the majority of circumstances, police cars making traffic stops should be fully marked with full police light bars and other equipment.
If you have any doubt that you are being stopped by a legitimate officer, you are advised to turn on your emergency flashers and proceed cautiously to a well lit and well populated area, when possible.
