BATESVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Members of Arkansas’ congressional delegation say the Batesville Regional Airport has received a $2.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvements and new construction projects.

The grant was announced Tuesday by Sens. John Boozman and Mark Pryor and Congressman Rick Crawford, whose district includes Batesville.

The transportation department says the money will be used to extend the runway safety area and bring the runway into accordance with Federal Aviation Administration design standards.

The grant will also be used to install perimeter fencing to make the runway secure from unauthorized people or vehicles.
