BENTON, AR – The City of Benton had a fireworks show Sunday night after the hot, dry conditions forced the cancellation of the fireworks show on the Fourth of July this year.
Now, two months later, it’s finally safe enough to lift the burn ban. The firework show was held at the old Saline Airport around Sunday.
The cancellation of the firework show on the 4th of July disappointed a lot of people. The City of Benton hopes the rescheduling of the fireworks will make up for missing out on the annual tradition, even if it is 2 months late.
Mayor David Mattingly says it was a shame the weather was so hot because he knew it had an effect on people celebrating on the Fourth of July.
The Benton Freedom Festival on the Fourth of July was not quite as populated at organizers hoped for due to the lack of fireworks.
Nathan Fallon brought his family to the event, however he said not being able to enjoy fireworks on the 4th of July was a huge disappointment.
Even though the burn ban is lifted, and rain from storms this week fell on much of the state, the Benton Fire Department is still asking people to be cautious because fire danger is still high.
