BENTON, AR – Benton police say designer drugs put two brothers behind bars.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said Amjad Kattom, 34, and Fadi Otouf, 29, plead guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances and Analogues of Controlled Substances.

Kattom was sentenced to to 70 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, a $5,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. Qtouf was sentenced to 60 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, a $5,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.

The charges stem from Project Synergy, the largest coordinated law enforcement strike against designer drugs, specifically synthetic cannabinoids (often referred to as “K2” or “Spice”) and synthetic cathinones (often referred to as “bath salts”).
