BENTON, AR – A Benton woman is facing nine different charges after police say she refused to pull over for officers and then crashed the vehicle she was driving.
It happened shortly after 1:00 this morning after police followed up on a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the area of the I-30 North Service Road near the 116 Exit.
Officers were able to find a vehicle resembling the description given and started following it.
That’s when they noticed the vehicle was dragging something underneath it that was causing sparks. When they tried to get the driver to pull over, they allegedly disregarded the emergency lights and siren, and started to speed away.
The vehicle continued on Highway 229 and then Highway 67 into Haskell. When the driver got to Grand Ave. in Haskell, they lost control and crashed into a ditch.
The suspect, identified as Heidie Taylor, 48, was taken into custody after a short foot chase.
Police say Taylor was incoherent and had trouble standing. She was taken to Saline Memorial Hospital for treatment and admitted for an undisclosed medical issue and will be arrested upon release. Taylor is charged with fleeing by vehicle, unauthorized use of another person’s property to facilitate a crime, fleeing on foot, DWI (drugs), reckless driving, refusal to submit to arrest, driving on suspended license, littering, and criminal mischief.
According to records, Taylor has been arrested at least two other time this year, once in April and again in June.
