CARROLL COUNTY, AR – A Berryville man is jailed after a violent crime spree that included allegations of kidnapping, assault, terroristic threats, theft and drug charges.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) says it happened on Saturday.
CCSO deputies were called to Berryville Mercy Hospital shortly after noon to investigate an assault. They say the victim reported that he had given a ride to a man who assaulted him with a pistol, tied him to a tree, and then took his vehicle, cash and other possessions.
The victim identified the suspect as Jeffrey Matlock, and an alert was issued for the stolen vehicle.
Soon after, an off-duty CCSO Reserve deputy, on his way home from a volunteered shift, saw the stolen car on a county road and it was found empty after a search of the area.
Over the next several hours, the CCSO received several reports of sighting the suspect, who was walking barefoot on another county road.
Shortly after 11 p.m., an ambulance was sent to the area to treat an injured person who would not say how he had been hurt. Following up that call, deputies found Matlock inside a home and placed him under arrest.
Matlock, 30, was booked on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping, Terroristic Threatening, Theft, Fleeing, Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts), Possession of Firearm by Certain Persons, and Parole Violation.
