LITTLE ROCK, AR – A bill banning drivers from using handheld devices comes down to stalemate vote. 19-year-old Grant Pyle shared his story on Tuesday.

A year and a half ago he was a passenger in a car where his friend was texting while driving. The friend lost control, and the vehicle flipped leaving Pyle paralyzed from the shoulders down.

“We’re just trying to spread awareness so no one else has to go through what I had to go through,” says Pyle.

The bill would have made driving while using a handheld device a primary offense, meaning drivers could be pulled over just for that.

Despite the testimony from Pyle the committee vote resulted in a tie which stopped the bill from going forward.
