The Little Rock Home Depot and S & S Home Improvement of Jacksonville are teaming up to donate all the materials and install a wheelchair ramp for Zack Towers, the Star City football player who collapsed during a game and is in a coma at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Zack’s mom, Christy Rasico, says her son is making slow improvements. Doctors say he’ will be ready to go home soon, so volunteers are helping his family get ready. “He would be overwhelmed with joy that people would do this for him.”
The Little Rock Home Depot Store Manager, Joe Moss, says when they heard about Zack, they thought it would be a great idea to donate the lumber and supplies needed build a wheelchair ramp at Zack’s mom’s house.
S & S Home Improvement in Jacksonville volunteered their time to construct it. It took 4 workers 2 days to build the large wrap around ramp leading from the family’s driveway to the backyard, up to the sliding glass door and into the living room.
Marvin Cox helped work on the project and says it’s an honor to be associated with two companies willing to give back to the community. “It just feels really good to be part of it.”
Moss says he’s glad the project is ready just in time for Christmas.
Rasico says while Zack still isn’t fully awake, he is responding to voice and touch. She says the love and support from the community is what’s helping them get through this difficult time. “This is just another expression of that. It’s unreal how everyone is willing to jump in and help.”
The family wants everyone to know just how very appreciative they are.
Workers will pour the concrete path from the driveway to the ramp Wednesday. Zack is expected to come home from the hospital Friday, but will need extensive home care. The family hopes prayers and support from the community will continue as they have a long road ahead with his recovery process.
