CAMDEN, AR — Students at Camden Fairview High School will go back to class Monday.
When the power came back on late this afternoon, the superintendent made the decision for school to be back in session.
The school closed down on Friday after straight-line winds destroyed homes in the area and damaged the school.
The gymnasium got the brunt of the damage.
Because the gym is 20 to 30 feet higher than the rest of the school, the maintenance director believes it protected the rest of the building.
High winds also damaged the stadium and two classrooms.
But crews made some temporary fixes so kids could go back to class quickly.
Johnny Embry, Director of Maintenance, said, “Actually right now things look a lot better. We had crews around for two days now doing things.”
Damage to the Camden Fairview High School is estimated at more than $50,000.
Architects and construction managers checked the structure of the building to make sure it was safe and sound for students.
Construction to permanently repair the damaged parts of the building will begin after school ends this summer.
