MORRILTON, AR – A 4-year-old child has died in a house fire.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Walnut Street around midnight Sunday.
Upon arrival, they were told one of three children who lived there could not be found. The children shared the home with their grandfather, Kawin Brockman, according to a news release from the Morrilton Fire Department.
Brockman told authorities he was awakened by the fire and was able to get a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old out safely but could not get the 4-year-old out before the flames engulfed the home.
Morrilton Fire Department arrived on scene and tried to find the child with no success. Once the fire was knocked down the fire department was able to recover the victim.
The fire department remained on scene for more than four hours extinguishing the fire.
The fire is still under investigation by the Morrilton Police Department, Morrilton Fire Department, and Arkansas State Police.
The identity of the child has not yet been released.
There is no word yet on the fire’s cause.
