Christmas tree sales strong despite poor economy

LITTLE ROCK, AR — The Christmas tree is a symbol of the holiday season and one that many families must have. Today, at Motley Christmas Tree Farm, the trees fell, crews packaged, and families took their favorite tree home.

Owner Randy Motley says this weekend is the first big one for sales. Even though the economy may not be the best, daily numbers look promising.

“Even despite the cold weather and the Razorback game and Black Friday, sales are up 20 percent,” said owner Randy Motley

But no matter the price, Brad Burney and his family make sure the trip to the farm is in the budget. Burney says holiday traditions like the cow ride and the pig race bring the family unit together.

“When (my wife and I) first got married, we started bringing our niece and nephew out here and cutting down the tree. And when we started having children, we kept doing it,” said Burney

For some, the Christmas tree search is a religious experience.

“It’s really a great start to our Advent season and celebrating Christ’s birth,” said Michelle Younkman.
