LITTLE ROCK, AR – Snow and ice are causing cracks and making major problems for drivers around Arkansas. It’s something FOX16’s Marci Manley has been on the lookout for in Little Rock.
Side streets are still seeing slick spots and there are ponds popping up of melted water that can’t runoff and could refreeze, and then there’s the black holes tires can fall into. The city’s already working to repair them.
“There’s just ice everywhere and it’s just a pain to get out,” says Dylan Baker.
Dylan Baker is gassing up before facing off with rough roads again.
Like many in Little Rock he’s facing a huge problem that’s tough to spot, but impossible to miss.
“You drive up in there and all of a sudden it’s like a bomb is blowing up under your tires,” says Dylan.
Potholes are one problem winter weather is leaving behind for Mark Jacobi, Little Rock’s Operations Coordinator.
“We try to get right onto it. The faster we repair potholes, the better it is for us and travelling public,” says Mark.
Clearing ice and snow is still a top priority for Operations in Little Rock, but there are already two crews out addressing asphalt issues. They’re using a high performance cold mix for those problem areas.
“As we dismount the snow equipment, we’ll immediately put those crews into asphalt patching equipment,” says Mark.
According to Jacobi crews haven’t really stopped working to address winter weather since February 15.
Logging 11,400 man hours to winter storm response, and doling out 3,400 cubic yards of sand and salt.
It’s all worth about $140,000. The city is asking that people call in to let them know where problem potholes might be. You can do that through 3-1-1. You can also report those potholes through the City of Little Rock app.
