Clinton Couple Displaced by Hotel Fire, House Fire

CLINTON,AR – A Clinton hotel fire displaces more than two dozen people. Among those guests–a couple that lost their home to a fire over the weekend.

Lloyd and Pamela Caltrider are taking the loss of their home in stride, laughing Thursday afternoon as they talked about the odds of a third fire happening.

Although they only made it out of both fires with little to nothing they said they are just fine with what they have.

“We got a few clothes out. We got our dogs out,” said Pamela.

Miss Piggy the bulldog doesn’t mind her new view from the Super Eight motel in Clinton but how she and her parents got here may be a surprise.

“When something like this happens you can either laugh or you can cry. But what’s the point in crying? You might as well laugh at it,” said Lloyd.

For Lloyd and Pamela it’s a trip down Memory Lane in Clinton where you can find their fire damaged home.

“It definitely could have been worse,” said Pamela.

Before the smell of smoke wore off, another disaster at their “new home.” Around midnight Thursday, an electrical fire broke out at the Highway 65 Best Western.

“The second fire was kind of surprising I will have to say,” said Lloyd.

“When I pulled up, the smoke was rolling out both sides and from the top. From a distance I thought the whole things was going to go,” said Clinton Fire Chief D.L. Webb.

Webb said the fire at the hotel was caused by electrical wire and took them until 8:30 Thursday morning to fully control.

According to Lloyd and Pamela, the only one not taking the two fires so well is one of their dogs that doesn’t do well away from home.

“You know a fire is a fire. You just got to try and get away. Save what you can and keep on trucking,” said Pamela.

While Miss Piggy thinks she is on vacation, her owners said they are just glad they have made it out of two fires safely with each other and the things they love.

The couple is hoping to move back into their home once it is repaired.
