CONWAY, AR – Two teen boys have been charged in a July double murder that claimed the lives of a local couple.

In a Friday afternoon news conference, the Conway Police Department announced that Justin Staton, 14, the grandson of the victims, and Hunter Drexler, 17, have been charged with capital murder in the case. Both are also charged with aggravated robbery, theft of property and abuse of a corpse.

Staton told investigators that Hunter suggested they shoot and kill the Cogdells. Another teen boy who was not charged told investigators it was Staton’s idea to commit the crime and they would split a large sum of money. 

The teen boy and a teen girl were with Staton and Drexler at the Cogdells’ home during the killing. 

Staton told investigators Drexler shot the couple. The other teen boy said Staton killed his 

Robert and Patricia Cogdell, both 66, were found dead behind their home on Quail Run Circle on July 22. Police said they believed the couple had been killed the night before.

Drexler was picked up in Young County, Texas a few days after the Cogdells were found and Staton had been taken into custody in the case. Two other teens found with Drexler have not been charged.
