LITTLE ROCK, AR – There is storm damage to clean up in at least five Arkansas counties.
High winds and large hail were reported with storms that rolled across the state Sunday from the afternoon hours into the late evening hours.
In Conway County, thunderstorm damage was reported around 5:30 p.m. at Overcup. Trees and power lines were downed and there was damage to some buildings.
At one point, the National Weather Service reported 60 mph winds in the area during the storms.
“This funnel twisting, green sky. It’s pretty scary. We just went back in the house, got in the hallway and came back out. You see the damage,” said Jason Turney, who lives in Overcup.
Thunderstorm wind damage was also reported shortly after 6 p.m. in Quitman (Cleburne County), where a tree measuring 12 inches in diameter was reported downed.
Shortly before 6:45 p.m. in White County, trees were reported down along Highway 16 in Pangburn.
Hail measuring an estimated 2 inches in diameter was reported at 4:35 p.m. in Montgomery County at Caddo Gap. At the same time, hail measuring 1.75 inches in diameter was reported as golf ball sized about one mile southeast of Caddo Gap. It was reported to have covered the ground on Twin Bridges Road. There were numerous reports of damage to roofs and vehicles. Hail estimated at 2.75 inches was also reported around 4:45 p.m. three miles north of Glenwood.
Large hail also fell in Garland County. Hail measuring an estimated 2 inches in diameter was reported at 5:15 p.m. about 1 mile north-northwest of Pettyview. Twenty minutes later hail estimated at 2.75 inches was reported 1 mile southeast of Hot Springs.
