A group of children riding a daycare shuttle bus are uninjured after getting into a car accident during rush hour. It happened around 5:30pm Thursday at the corner of Lynch and Mills in North Little Rock.
While taking children home from the Sammie Gail Sanders Child Learning Center, the shuttle bus collided with a car. Police blocked off traffic while emergency crews inspected the injured adults. All 9 children strapped in their car seats are okay.
Craig Cloud is the Chief Compliance Officer for Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally Disabled Inc. that runs the Sammie Gail Sanders Child Learning Center. He says, “Thankfully our children are safe and we’re taking care of them. We are contacting their parents, and we’re going to get them home safely.”
Three other people involved in the accident went to the hospital. The driver and passenger in the car, and an adult riding the shuttle as a chaperone were injured.
Frantic parents notified about the accident immediately came to collect their children. Jacquline Ward is taking her 2-year-old son Columbus Jones to the doctor just to make sure he’s O.K. “My heart is hurting. I rushed out of work and hurried over here. I’m going to take him to the emergency room now.”
Ward says she feels a lot better seeing her son and being able to hold him in her arms. She’s relieved the crash didn’t end any worse.
Cloud says, “We’re just thankful everyone’s O.K. and we’re thankful for their protection. They were buckled up in the car seats, so thankfully they’re safe. We have a lot to be thankful for.”
The children on board the shuttle range in age from 12 months to 5-years-old. No word yet on the extent of the injuries of the other 3 people involved in the accident.
