DREW COUNTY, AR – A local woman is jailed on a felony charge of concealing a birth.
The Drew County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) says Anne Bynum, 37, was arrested on Monday, five days after she went to the Drew Memorial Hospital emergency room with her newborn wrapped in a plastic bag.
The child was pronounced dead and the body was sent to the State Crime Lab for autopsy.
Investigators later determined that Bynum, who was 33 weeks pregnant, had delivered the child at her parents home about 8 hours before going to the hospital.
Deputies say she gave birth alone, told no one, placed the child in the plastic bag which she then put inside her car and went back to bed for several hours before finally going to the hospital and asking to see a doctor.
The DCSO says its also been discovered that Bynum had taken medications a couple of days before the birth to induce labor.
Charges filed against her could be upgraded after the prosecutor reviews the case.
