EL DORADO, AR (News release) – An El Dorado man is behind bars after police found 647 images and 69 videos of child pornography on two computers in his home.
Conner Eldridge, United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, announced that Shannon Ross Griffin, 45, of El Dorado, was sentenced today to 180 months in prison followed by supervised release for life for Receiving Images of Child Pornography. The sentencing took place before the Honorable Harry F. Barnes in the United States District Court in El Dorado.
U. S. Attorney Eldridge commented, “Today’s sentence is a reminder that we will not rest in our efforts to identify, investigate, and prosecute those who abuse our children. Crimes such as these are horrendous and inexcusable.Every time a video or image involving sexual abuse of children is downloaded or viewed these children are re-victimized. We appreciate the hard work of law enforcement to bring these sexual predators to justice.”
According to court records, on or about September 11, 2013, Homeland Security Investigation agents and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in South Arkansas executed a search warrant for child pornography at Griffin’s home in El Dorado. During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement confiscated two computers and other digital storage devices. A subsequent forensic examination of the devices revealed multiple images and videos of child pornography. After being advised of his rights, Griffin admitted to downloading child pornography from the internet and saving the images on his computers and digital storage devices. Investigators located a total of approximately 647 images and 69 videos depicting sexual assaults of children and other child pornography. Griffin pleaded guilty to the charge on March 10, 2014.
This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant United States Attorneys Matt Quinn and Allison Bragg prosecuted the case for the United States.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and their Criminal Division Child Exploitation and Obscenity Sections (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
