NEWPORT, Ark. –(KAIT) People in Northwest Arkansas honored a fallen officer at halftime of the Newport at Green County Tech high School Football game Friday night.
Law enforcement officials from across the state joined fans for Heroes Appreciation Night.
During halftime, Lt. Patrick Weatherford was honored.
Weatherford died in the line of duty in June.
His wife Kristen joined first responders on the field for a special presentation.
Former Governor Mike Beebe took part in the ceremony.
“It is still fresh,” Newport Police Chief Michael Scudder told KAIT8.
“It still hurts and every little thing like that helps them get by,” said Scudder.
“I am his brother in blue which makes her a family member of mine as well so to know she has an extended family miles and miles beyond Newport,” said North Little Rock police officer Tommy Norman.
