RUSSELLVILLE, AR- Two months after a murder-suicide in Pope County, family members are questioning the facts of the investigation. They believe someone else was involved and murdered the Russellville couple. The victim’s sister is now demanding another investigation.
Clyde Daniel Harris and his wife Miranda Harris were found dead in their home off Crow Mountain on March 3rd, 2015. The Pope County Sheriff’s Office is reporting it as a murder-suicide, but a series of events that followed their deaths has led the family to believe this wasn’t the case and someone else took their lives.
“That’s what they were most of the time, happy. And just being silly. I don’t think my brother would’ve shot himself and I don’t think he would’ve shot her,” says Kathy Doyle, Clyde Daniel Harris’ sister.
The crime scene is still untouched. What Kathy says they’re seeing inside the home doesn’t add up on paper, such as bullet holes and where the bodies were found.
“Somebody had to be pretty mad at Daniel to have stomped his glasses in the floor. Which leads me to believe there’s somebody else here,” says Doyle.
And if true, she believes that person has been breaking into the home every other night since the couple’s death, including her house next door.
“They’ve scattered the baby clothes, they just go through personal stuff,” she says.
The lights were even left on when they returned home. Kathy says they did find one of her brother’s guitars in the pawn shop a week later.
“That’s his guitar right there. And he says well you’re going to need a search warrant in order for me to tell you who pawned it,” she says.
The day the couple’s bodies were discovered, Kathy says her brother’s bank books and car keys were missing. She’s hoping their findings will help prompt another investigation and bring them closure.
“He wasn’t into drugs, he wasn’t into nothing illegal,” she says.
The Pope COunty Sheriff’s Office says the case is closed. There was no foul play, the doors were locked and nothing was taken. Sheriff Shane Jones says Clyde Daniel left behind a couple of notes indicating his involvement in the murder-suicide. Notes, the family says they’ve been trying to read, but the prosecutor wasn’t able to release at the time. As for the requested investigation, since the case is closed, it’s up to the family to hire an investigator to look into the case.
