FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KNWA) – For nearly a decade, Bobbi Wolf and her dad have coached the Venom Fast Pitch softball team. This year, they’re one of the top in the nation.
“We’ve been doing a lot of fundraisers, and this was hopefully our last one to help get us to the world series,” she explains.
The team qualified for the world series, this month, in Orlando. They had been raising money for months to get there, but Friday, a robbery may have crushed their dreams. Nearly a thousand dollars in fireworks was stolen from the Venom Fast Pitch.
“Our big stuff, like our expensive artillery shells, the big packs are 200 bucks apiece. Mortar shells, the expensive ones wiped off the table, our big family packs, those are 120-150 bucks. This kind of just devastated us, having somebody come in here and steal from us,” Wolf adds.
Pitcher Lakota Wolf discovered they had been robbed.
“When I first saw it, it got me kind of scared, and then I was just sitting there and it made me really mad. I really don’t know what to say. Give it back, we need money for the world series,” says Lakota.
Despite the setback, Wolf says they’re still focused on raising enough money, hoping to make it to Orlando.
“We’re gonna try and pull up with some more fundraisers, you know we’ve only got 10 days. It’s kind of hard to come up with that kind of money. I’ve already called the bank and am gonna put up one of my vehicles for a loan,” Wolf says.
She says they’re lucky and things could always be worse.
“What would’ve happened if we were here. If it was kids, we probably would’ve scared ’em off. It could’ve been a lot worse. I guess I’m kind of thankful it happened the way it did. It’s not just stealing fireworks. It’s stealing from the girls, it’s stealing from the parents, it’s stealing from these girls’ dreams,” explains Wolf.
