NORTH CAROLINA — The death toll from Hurricane Florence jumps to more than 30 as severe weather continues to cause problems along the east coast.
The biggest problem continues to be flooding. Entire neighborhoods have been wiped out by water. The storm system is still dumping rain and spawning tornadoes in the Carolinas.
North Carolina’s Governor Roy Cooper telling people it’s still best to avoid even areas where water is receding. “While road conditions are starting to improve in some parts of our state, rising creeks, streams and rivers continue to make roads unsafe in parts of our state,” said Cooper. “We can’t stress enough, don’t drive through flood waters, don’t drive around barricades.”
More than 10-thousand families remain in shelters. Right now forecasters say the water will continue to rise in many areas all the way through the weekend.
