LITTLE ROCK, AR – Former Arkansas Treasurer Martha Shoffner has pleaded not guilty to federal charges.
Shoffner, 68, of Newport, made her first appearance this morning in Federal Court in Little Rock since being indicted on multiple felony counts of extortion and bribery earlier this month.
The charges in the 14-count indictment include 7 counts of receipt of bribes by an agent of state government receiving federal funds, 6 counts of extortion, and 1 count of attempted extortion.
Shoffner faces a 20-year prison term for each extortion charge and the attempted extortion charge and a 10-year prison term for each of the bribery charges.
Shoffner also faces a possible fine of up to $250,000 on each count and up to three years of supervised release.
A trial date was set today for Shoffner of July 29th before Judge Leon Holmes.
