BRYANT, AR — A former Razorbacks football player is behind bars in Saline County after police say he and another man tried to fraudulently obtain prescription drugs.
Cedric Cobbs has been charged with conspiracy to obtain drugs by fraud, fleeing and driving on a suspended license after a Tuesday morning incident at a local pharmacy.
According to the Bryant Police Department (BPD), officers responded to a call at Fred’s Pharmacy on Highway 5 around 11:30 Tuesday morning after a report of two men trying to pass a forged prescription for 180 Roxicodone pills.
As officers pulled into the parking lot, BPD says they saw the two suspects jump into a vehicle and drive away on Highway 5 toward Interstate 30.
The car initially refused to pull over for the pursuing officer, but eventually stopped just before Springhill Crossing off Highway 5, according to police.
Police say they made contact with the driver, 32-year-old Cedric Cobbs, who was taken into custody.
The passenger in the car, 59-year-old Gary Hunt, was later arrested after learning he had warrants out of Sherwood and a felony parole warrant. He was charged with second-degree forgery.
“That is a large amount of pills to try to get,” says BPD Sgt. Todd Crowson. “Obviously we spoke to the doctor’s office, they immediately confirmed that the prescription was never written for that amount.”
BPD says Cobbs was driving on a suspended license due to nonpayment of child support.
Both Cobbs and Hunt were taken to the Saline County Jail.
Cobbs was a running back for the Razorbacks from 1999-2004, racking up over 3,000 yards on the ground in his career.
