BENTONVILLE, AR (KNWA) – Joshua Melton has been arrested on multiple charges including harassment less than a week after being found not guilty of second degree murder.

On Tuesday, officers with the Bentonville Police Department arrested Joshua C. Melton, 34, of Fayetteville, for Harassment, Carrying a Weapon, and Loitering. The arrest happened on the Lincoln Junior High School campus.

According to police, the arrest stemmed from information the police department received about Melton making threatening statements to a third party about an employee of the Bentonville School District.

A School Resource Officer found Melton on campus. He had no justification for his presence on school property, and he was believed to be placing the victim under surveillance, police said.

Police also found a large hunting knife on Melton. He is being held at the Benton County Detention Center for a bond hearing and a no contact order/condition of release, which is required for the Harassment charge.

Both Carrying a Weapon and Harassment are Class A Misdemeanors, and Loitering is a Class C Misdemeanor.

No school activities were disrupted during this investigation.

On Thursday, December 4, 2014, a Washington County jury found Melton not guilty of second-degree murder.
