WASHINGTON, D.C. (News release) – Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman today announced that two Arkansas fire departments will receive nearly $350,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The Etowah Fire Department will receive $134,700 to purchase a brush truck and the Arkansas Fire Training Academy in Camden will receive $207,400 to purchase turnout gear.
“Arkansas firefighters always answer the call to protect our families,” Pryor said. “These grants will ensure our first responders continue to have the necessary training and equipment to keep us safe in times of emergency.”
“This investment will play an important role in protecting Arkansas citizens,” Boozman said. “This funding provides tools our firefighters need to protect their safety while responding to emergency situations.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency provides fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations with the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel. During Fiscal Year 2013, DHS AFG Program awarded approximately $288.8 million directly to local fire departments and EMS organizations.
