GOP Rolls Out “Operation Vote Arkansas”

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Arkansas Republicans announced a new initiative Thursday aimed at voter education in response to the new Voter ID law.

“Operation Vote Arkansas” is designed to help those who need assistance in obtaining a photo ID according to party chairman Doyle Webb.

“We will have volunteers around the state the will work to get the word out that a photo ID will be required to vote in the 2014 elections,” Webb said.

The state House completed a veto override of the legislation on Monday.

Act 595 takes effect on January 1, 2014 or when the Secretary of State has funding available to implement photo ID machines in 87 county clerks offices statewide.

Groups have indicated they will challenge the new law in court and Arkansas Secretary of State told reporters Thursday no money has been appropriated for the new program.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll have funding by January 1st,” Martin says. “There are no certainties though.”
