Gov. Beebe, Teachers & School Districts Look for Solution to Impending Insurance Hike

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Governor Mike Beebe says progress is being made toward a possible special session to address skyrocketing insurance rates for teachers.

The governor met with teacher groups and school districts Tuesday, hoping to find a solution before insurance rates are set to jump hundreds of dollars a month beginning Jan. 1.

“We have had some push back in a couple of areas today, particularly from some superintendents as some of the details get thrown out as possibilities,” Beebe said.

The governor says he does not have a timetable on when to reach an agreement, but teachers begin signing up for insurance on Nov. 1.
