LITTLE ROCK, AR — With a potential end to the government shutdown in sight, a local nonprofit is warning of its long-term impact.
Women and Children First, a nonprofit that provides shelters to women and children, says it’s missed out on $60,000 in government funding since the shutdown.
At a Wednesday morning news conference, board members say the situation for nonprofits continues to worsen.
“The partial shutdown is causing tremendous harm. It’s frightened a lot of people. It’s exceedingly dire,” board member Cindy Murphy said.
The nonprofit says it has lost 65 percent of its revenue as a result of the shutdown and needs $25,000 to keep the program going.
So far this year, they have sheltered 382 women and 176 children.
