HARRISON, Ark. (KOLR) – A man from Harrison is sentenced to 36 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder.
Recently released court records show Shay Butler, 23, struck a deal with Boone County prosecutors and pleaded guilty to capital murder and aggravated robbery charges in connection to the 2016 death of Jeremy Scroggins, 28.
Butler was originally charged as a habitual offender with capital murder, aggravated robbery, and a felon in possession of a gun. Judge Gordon Webb accepted the guilty plea on Thursday.
According to arrest records, Butler admitted to shooting Scroggins with a .22 caliber weapon, the day of his disappearance, on June 27. According to police, investigators believe it was a drug deal gone wrong.
Butler will appear back in court this week to testify against his alleged driver the night of the murder, Morgan Vaughan, 25, of Jasper.
