LITTLE ROCK, AR — Former President Bill Clinton will recognize schools across the country that have gone above and beyond to getting students to eat healthier and to get moving.
School leaders accepting the award participated in a 5K in the River Market Monday morning.
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation coordinated this event.
The American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation started the organization.
The recognized schools have implemented healthy eating and physical activity programs to improve students’ lives.
“As you know we have an epidemic. One in three children is overweight or obese so having healthier schools is part of what stems that tide and actually has healthier children live longer,” said Marcy Gialdo, a representative of the group. The schools represented come from 25 states and the District of Columbia.
