ARKADELPHIA, AR – Students were left without water overnight at Henderson State University.
On Tuesday night, water maintenance crews were performing routine checks in Smith Hall when school officials say a valve busted — causing all the water to cut off from about 10 p.m. to 11 Wednesday morning.
The school said the dorm building is more than 50 years old and has had other maintenance issues before.
“We are working on fixing it,” said Lewis Shepherd with Student and External Affairs. “Students’ living conditions are our top priority.”
Fox 16 was told the building’s hot water was also not in working order on Tuesday. The school said it notified students about the routine maintenance, but wasn’t expecting the valve issue.
It acknowledges the building is old and said by fall next year there will be several new dorms for students to move into.
