Highway Department Looking to Improve I-30 in Pulaski County

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Driving on Interstate 30 through Pulaski County is a huge problem for commuters every day.

The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) is looking to make improvements and wants to hear from the public on how to do that.

Today in North Little Rock, it held the first of two public meetings.

The goal, to identify and document needs and improvements specifically.

“But it also has some issues. There are some structural issues with that bridge and we need to do something with that. Do we need to fix what’s already there, widen what’s already there or do we need to build a new bridge in its place?” asks Randy Ort, AHTD spokesman.

AHTD doesn’t want to reach out to potential construction companies until 2018.

Until then, it says it will continue to hold more public meetings.

The overall project will cost anywhere from $300 million to $450 million.

It will be paid for with taxpayer money as well as federal funding.
