Hit and Run Leaves Teen in Critical Condition

LITTLE ROCK, AR – A Central Arkansas teenager is in critical condition and the community is praying for her recovery. The incident happened on Jones and 13th street in Little Rock.

“They said it was a champagne colored car,” says Latanya Williams, the aunt of the victim.

It’s heart wrenching for Williams to describe what happened to her niece Saturday night.

“She hit the back of the truck and um,” says Williams, while holding back tears.

Witnesses say around 6 p.m., a champagne colored Buick raced down Jones Street in Little Rock. When it got to a bridge, the driver struck 16-year-old Ruthann Owens.

“And she flipped over the car. She hit the back of the truck. That’s when somebody came to her rescue,” says Williams.

“Bam. He hit the little girl,” says a witness who did not want to be identified. “He hit her, got out of the car and asked her, ‘Are you okay?’ He put his hands on her and then got back in the car and drove off. She was screaming and hollering please call my mom, call my mom. C’mon God this is serious,” says the witness.

Relatives say Ruthann is in critical condition.

“It’s not good. The situation is, everything is broken in her face,” says Williams.

Friends say even with severe injuries the girl who loves to talk on the phone and hang out with friends is keeping her spirits high.

“She was like just be strong, because we were crying to see all of that blood and stuff. It was just devastating,” says friend Shironda McDore.

Now the family and the community want the driver they describe as a black male with dreadlocks to turn himself in.

“This is my niece and we just need answers,” says Williams.

“Please come clean. She’s 16-years-old,” says a witness.
