Howard Co. Residents Picking Up the Pieces after EF-2 Tornado Hits

NASHVILLE, AR – Thousands of Arkansans are spending the night without power two days after an EF-2 tornado hit in Howard County.

The storm killed two parents leaving behind an 18-month-old they died trying to protect.

“Maybe it will hold them temporarily we hope,” says Donald Robinson.

While Donald Robinson works to repair damage caused by the EF-2 tornado Sunday night he’s trying to wrap his mind around the extensive damage just a few feet away.

“Over the years I’ve known a lot of people that lived in this trailer park,” says Robinson.

Ripped apart homes scatter across what used to be the small neighborhood. Homes and lives both lost here.

“You feel sorry for them. These people lost everything they had. I sure hadn’t got any complaints about what I lost,” says Robinson.

Elsewhere in town it’s a different story.

“I just put the generator on this morning,” says Phillip Westbrook.

Phillip Westbrook is one of around 1,700 people still without power nearly two days after the storm. Public works and disaster crews were in the thick of it Tuesday clearing out debris and working to restore power knocked out by the power of a tornado.

“This was something else. It’s the closest it’s gotten to us really,” says Westbrook.

Many are still amazed more people didn’t die. While honoring the lives of two parents Michael and Melissa Moneyhan who were found dead shielding their 18-month-old daughter.

“I’m just so proud to hear that baby survived. That’s a miracle in itself,” says Robinson.
