LITTLE ROCK, AR — The Pulaski County Humane Society volunteers are hoping adoptive families come to their rescue after they rescued dozens of cats from a Woodruff County home Friday.
The shelter was over capacity for months before the board made an emergency decision to take on an urgent case. Volunteers say a
McCrory couple was taking care of roughly 50 animals when the wife fell ill and died.
The board put out a call to volunteers and decided to make room by moving someone out of their office to make space for the remaining 34 cats and one dog, hoping to help the husband, overwhelmed with grief and animals.
“All rescues we do are rewarding, but this one is pretty nice being around the holidays, we were able to help someone going through a very tragic time, and we were able to get the cats into some new homes,” says Dr. Teresa Medlock.
Volunteers say this is usually a pretty slow time for adoptions, but they’ve lowered the fee from $60 to $30 for any cat of any breed, hoping to place these animals and make space for others this winter.
