LITTLE ROCK, AR – Hundreds of job seekers were looking for work at the FOX16 Job Alert and Goodwill Industries of Arkansas’ Job Fair Tuesday morning.
FOX16’s Susanne Brunner helped spearhead this event and takes us inside what many are calling a huge success.
More than 40 employers met face to face with hundreds of Arkansans in need of work or a career change.
A steady stream of job hunters lined up outside Goodwill headquarters in Little Rock for the FOX16 Job Alert and Goodwill Industries of Arkansas Job Fair.
“To see so many people who need jobs to provide for their families, coming through the doors, it’s awesome,” says Rebecca Brockman with Goodwill.
With resumes in hand job seekers signed up eager to check out employment opportunities.
“A better opportunity to get a job seeing them face to face and to submit your resume in person instead of doing it online,” says jon seeker Christopher Flowers.
Companies set up booths showcasing available positions, took resumes and even interviewed candidates on the spot.
Marguerite Taggart traveled all the way from Pine Bluff looking for someone to give her a second chance at a successful career.
“I’ve got a couple strikes against me. I’m an ex-felon, but that was 20 years ago,” says Taggart.
Marguerite has since turned her life around, working on her masters degree hoping to become an asset to any organization.
“I’m just looking for something that can help me pay bills and I don’t have to struggle day to day,” Taggart says.
A message that many here can relate to, “Apply for the jobs you want and our staffing center will give you a call.”
“It’s a clear indication that although the economy is getting better, there are people who still need help,” says Brockman.
Including those who are looking to hire.
“For all the people coming into this one place and we don’t have to look around, that is great!,” says Heritage Company recruiter Don Smith.
No matter what your background is, this event was an opportunity that could result in a life-changing career move.
“I know I still got to keep trying. I know there’s somebody out there who will give me a job,” Taggart says.
The final numbers are not in yet, but so far more than 700 job seekers attended the FOX16 Job Alert and Goodwill Industries of Arkansas Job Fair.
