CONWAY, AR —  Nearly 200 people came together on Thursday night to remember the life of an 18-year-old student who died on Wednesday.

A preliminary report from the medical examiner indicates Jaykwantay Girley died from a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, according to a release. The notification to university police came from Faulkner County Coroner Patrick Moore.

University police and MEMS personnel found Girley on Wednesday around 8 a.m. in the residence hall bathroom.

A vigil was held Thursday night in honor of the freshman affectionately known as “JJ.”

“A young life with a world of potential was cut short this week,” President President Tom Courtway said. “Last night’s candlelight vigil, in honor of JJ, was an outpouring of love and caring for the Girley family for their loss and the loss of a member of the UCA family. We once again extend our deepest condolences to his mother and family and will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

A pancake supper will be held on Saturday (Oct. 5) at the Christian Cafeteria from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with all proceeds donated to Girley’s family. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at a number of locations on campus Friday and Saturday.
