UNION COUNTY, AR – An inmate in prison for failure to register as a sex offender was allegedly strangled to death late Friday night.
According to reports, inmate Ronald Holland, 44, stopped a guard around 1:00 am on December 8 to report that he’d strangled his cell mate with a bed sheet. Holland reportedly told the guard that he’d strangled his cell mate, identified as Matthew Schiele, 22, around 11:00 pm Friday night and covered his body with a sheet.
Schiele was in prison serving a 48-month sentence for failure to register as a sex offender, while Holland was serving out a capital murder life sentence without parole.
Arkansas State Police is investigating.
