FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Volunteers made a difference by removing highly invasive plants at the Mount Sequoyah Woods.

Both the Chinese privet and bush honeysuckle are invasive and grow over other native plants that are better food resources for the wildlife around the lake according to Beaver Watershed Alliance program coordinator Nate Weston, .

“An invasive species moves into an area and something makes it more competitive than the native species”, said Weston. “In this case, because they’re exotic, they’re usually imports from japan, china, places like that.”

The cleanup event was hosted by the Beaver Watershed Alliance.
