JACKSONVILLE, AR – A local mother has been arrested after police say her toddler son was found playing in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Police were called to the Chapel Ridge Apartments on Stanphill Road Tuesday evening on a report of a child in the path of vehicles outside Building 15.

The child, reported as 3-4 years old, was alone and unable to tell police where he lived, officers said.

After officers started knocking on doors, they found the boy’s aunt, who realized the child was missing after she “began counting heads of other small children” in the apartment.

About the same time, police found the child’s mother, Ronique A. Jacobs, 33, of Jacksonville, who also did not know he was missing.

Police say the mom was found about 15 minutes after they found the child.

Jacobs was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.
