LITTLE ROCK, AR – Jacksonville mayor Gary Fletcher says he will work with the Arkansas Livestock Show Association for the next 30-45 days to come up with a list of needs that could lure the state fair away from Little Rock.
Gary Fletcher says his city is ready to move forward to find private investors for a 200,000 square foot facility that could serve as an event center for a regional fair or the state fair.
“I need to move on. I’m losing opportunities for my city too,” Fletcher said after the meeting Thursday.
The fair currently operates on 98 acres off Roosevelt Road in Little Rock. Fletcher has offered the fair 450 acres of undeveloped property off Rixey Road south of Jacksonville that has nearby access to Interstate 440.
Livestock Association executive director Ralph Shoptaw says he will provide Fletcher with a list of needs for the fair if it moves. He says the list includes parameters for buildings for livestock and equestrian shows.
“We hate to drag it out, but as I’ve always said, we haven’t done this in 70 years and whatever we do we want to do it right,” Shoptaw says.
