Jesse Jackson speaks at UCA

CONWAY, AR — Monday, Jesse Jackson spoke at University of Central Arkansas. The civil rights icon gave a lecture on the state of the nation’s economy.

He also announced to buy stock in the 50 largest companies in the southeast, including Central Arkansas. He says by becoming a shareholder, he can evaluate diversity policies and make sure they are fair.

“We have to make sure things are level, ” said Jackson.

In terms of race, he says the South has made significant gains.

Now Jackson says Central Arkansas faces a new challenge–not enough jobs and college tuition is affordable.

“Student loan debt is like credit card debt. We got to fight to reduce tuition costs, forgive student loan debt and give the next generation a green light,” said Jackson.
