Jonesboro Man Drowns on Alabama Gulf Coast

GULF SHORES, AL  – A Jonesboro man has drowned on the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Officials in Gulf Shores say Warren H. Moore, 62, was trying to save a woman in distress when a rip current pulled him under around noon on Monday.

AL.com reports the two struggled in waters just west of the Gulf State Pier near the Royal Palms condo. Another swimmer pulled the woman safely to shore. A marine rescue crew found Moore’s body about an hour later.

Less than 24 hours earlier rip currents claimed the lives of  three other men swimming on Fort Morgan Peninsula near Gulf Shores.

Gulf Shores city officials closed all public waters on Monday and posted double red flags on all beaches warning of the water dangers.

By this morning, conditions had improved and yellow flags were flying on the beaches of Gulf Shores. Yellow flags warn of a “Medium Hazard” for “Moderate Surf and/or Currents.”
