LITTLE ROCK, AR – State lawmakers will hold a meeting next week to ask questions of the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department regarding the agency’s response to the most recent winter storm.
A joint meeting of the House/Senate committee will meet on Tuesday March 11th with members of the Arkansas Highway Commission to discuss the gridlock on I-40 and I-55 earlier this week in eastern Arkansas.
State Senator Johnny Key, R-Mountain Home, says the concern extends beyond that part of the state. He says his district in North Central Arkansas has seen economic impact from businesses unable to operate because employees living in Missouri could not make it to work in Arkansas.
“It’s been the same problem for now four different ice storms,” Key says. “Missouri is clear, Arkansas is not. What are they doing differently? Is it an equipment issue, is it a procedure issue, is a coordination issue? We don’t know.”
