Little Rock Police: Train Runs over Man being Chased by Officers

LITTLE ROCK, AR – A local man is recovering from injuries suffered when he was run over by a train while police say he was trying to get away from officers.

It happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday in an area off 10th Street.

The Little Rock Police Department says officers had been chasing Anthony Brown, 32, after finding him allegedly loitering in the parking lot of a business that was closed.

Police say Brown ran from officers when they approached him in the parking lot and he kept going through the backyard of a home, into a wooded area and down a culvert with train tracks below where was a train was passing through.

Brown was ordered to stop running and get on the ground but he instead ran alongside the moving train before grabbing onto it. Police say Brown was dragged behind the train until officers lost sight of him.

While the officers had dispatch call Union Pacific Railroad to stop the train, other officers called to the area came to a culvert near 10th St. and saw Brown let go of the train.

One of them reported watching Brown roll under the train and out the other side where the officer said he appeared to have suffered a severe injury. When they walked up to the man, they found he had an amputated left leg and left thumb as well as severe cuts on both arms.

Doctors told police he is expected to survive.
