LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The table was set Tuesday for a discussion about a proposed ordinance to limit large group feeding in Little Rock.

“We want to see zero ordinances restricting the sharing of food with anybody for any reason,” Aaron Reddin with The Van said.

On the menu, several parameters for groups like The Van who help feed the needy at Little Rock city controlled properties.

“The people of this city are giving people, we’re about taking care of each other,” Reddin said.

“We have much greater concerns we worry about in this town than people sharing food with more than 25 people,” Reddin said.

The restrictions include a $500 refundable security deposit and limits the groups to large feedings just twice a year.

As a display of its opposition, members of The Van community set up a group feeding of more than 100 people and later packed into City Hall but not for long.

“The mayor would like to put a coalition together to further discuss this,” Lamor Williams said.

The discussion later called off the agenda and tabled for eight weeks.

“Everyone can come together and discuss and share thier solutions to this problem,” Williams said.

While the food fight cools off for now, homeless advocates say they won’t let it stay cooled for long.

“My push is going to be no ordicance, period,” Reddin said.
